Jamey Grimes

Cymatics III, 2010
Stainless steel wire, polyester screen, floats
variable dimensions

Observation fuels the imagination as the artist Jamey Grimes experiments with synthetic materials and the forces and movements of nature. Cymatics III is the third of a series composed of stainless steel wires set vertically on an undulating surface, where for the first time, placed into an exterior environment and onto the surface of the back pond of the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden. Columns of reflected light playfully bob and sway as the individual movements of the wires are influenced by the gentle winds and swells made by the pond life underneath.

Grimes received an MFA from the University of Alabama in 2007, where he is currently an instructor. He has had numerous solo and group shows around the country.
