J. Susie Hwang

Video and performance artist J. Susie Hwang is heavily influenced by Buddhist ceremony, and is fascinated by the ritual catharsis and marking of time in the act of prostration. She performs this action on a bed of clay, which is imprinted with her physical presence and serves as a residue of the event.

Hwang received her art education at the Rhode Island School of Design in glass/digital media.  She began her career as an editor of various animated shows for Nickelodeon, Disney, the Cartoon network, NickToons MTV and others before turning her attention to traditional glass media and her recent body of artistic work involving video.  She is currently an instructor of computer art at the School of Visual Arts in New York and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
