Cameron Gainer

This project involved the creation of a series of light formations in the Key West sky. The hovering lights drew curiosity and intrigue from unsuspecting onlookers and several reported sightings of unidentified flying objects to the press and local officials. Was this a spacecraft or clandestine military project visible in the night sky? Or was this a new constellation in the heavens? Drawn to iconic images, the popular imagery, and the formal qualities of sculpture, Gainer created a compelling sculptural form in space that defied gravity and time---formed as much by the viewer’s own imagination as through his temporary light choreography.

Gainer received his MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.  His work has been exhibited in many prestigious venues including Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, NY, and the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, PA. He lives in Minneapolis, MN and his most recent solo exhibition ìImpact Site,î 2008, was held at the Contemporary Art Museum at the University of South Florida, Tampa, where he was a resident artist at the Institute for Research in Art.
