Mitch Blessing

With references to plastic "junk" found in the waters of South Florida, refugees swimming ashore and mooring buoys, Flotsam, by Coral Gables artist Mitch Blessing is also comically autobiographical. A multiplicity of self-portraits, each of the 29 identical heads is a cast from the artist's own head. He writes, "I am literally in the water a lot, and I am often figuratively barely keeping my head above water.

The artist, originally from Minnesota, will receive his MFA from the University of Miami in May 2008.
