Sculpture Key West announces 2008 award winners
Sculpture Key West wrapped up another successful sculpture exhibition and announced the award winners for the 2008 show. Karlis Rekevics received the Bob Crane Grand Esplanade Award First Prize with his sculpture Bastion, Affectation, Differences, a large-scale piece made of cast plaster. Second and third prizes for the Bob Crane Grand Esplanade Award went to Kees Ouwens for his piece The Sound of Shadow and to Monika Goetz for The End of the World. The Duke Rood Memorial Award for Artistic Excellence went to Susan Rodgers for My Mondiran and to Ans Hey for Architectual Love. Hey’s piece remains on display at the Florida Keys Community College Library. The People’s Choice Award for Best by Land, sponsored by the Key West Citizen, was awarded to Jimmy Wray’s HS2 Home School High School for the student-made sculpture Alchemy 2 – Dream Catcher. The People’s Choice Award for Best by Sea, sponsored by Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships, went to Lori Nozick for Lighthouses. The Jim Racchi Earth Water Award went to Steven Durow for his cast glass sculpture at the West Martello titled Dasein Columns. Robert Chambers’ sculpture Propane Dog will remain on display at the NOAA weather station on White St.
