After receiving a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California in
Berkley, Gareth Spor turned to the arts and will receive his MFA in Painting
and Drawing from the California College of the Arts (CCA) in May 2008.
By bringing together disparate objects and concepts, the artist seeks to
offer up to the audience a trail of breadcrumbs that might, "encourage
particular mental paths and activities while not forcing any one idea upon
the viewers." By combining the first photo of the earth taken from space (in
1946) and a carefully arranged selection of painted bricks (organized by the
principles of Leonardo Fibonacci) Spor comments on the mysterious activity of
man to create images that do not come into view unless seen from high above.
