Miami native Robert Chambers combines many references to
this piece. The oil barrels have been shot with a variety
of weapons, but not just any weapons: specifically those
that the US has sold to other countries to fight their wars.
Each one has a kind of minimalist face violently punched
into it and a light that goes on and off in a rotating circular
pattern. The faces and light reference a gentler folk art
and bring a grim humor to the piece. Robert has exhibited
in the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis and is an accomplished
artist, curator, scientist, teacher, motivator and creative
tinkerer. He was the subject of a retrospective article
in the March 2004 issue of Sculpture Magazine and a new
father of twin girls.
